FLOOR MARKING TAPE
Floor marking tape is a heavy-duty vinyl tape designed to adhere directly to concrete, tile, and other hard floor surfaces and stay in place under foot traffic, forklift wheels, and pallet jacks. It is one of the most cost-effective tools for organizing a warehouse floor without paint or permanent markings.Common uses include marking pedestrian walkways and forklift lanes, identifying staging areas and inventory locations, outlining hazard zones near machinery or loading docks, and color-coding areas by department or product type. OSHA guidelines recommend clearly marked walking paths in warehouses; floor tape is one of the primary methods facilities use to meet that standard.
Floor marking tape is available in solid colors and striped patterns. Yellow is the most common color for aisle marking. Red and yellow stripes are widely used for hazard and caution zones. Other colors support color-coded zone systems. Tape width, adhesive strength, and thickness vary by product; heavier-traffic areas generally require a thicker tape with a more aggressive adhesive to resist forklift wear.

DUCT TAPE
Duct tape is a cloth-backed, pressure-sensitive tape with a strong adhesive that bonds to a wide variety of surfaces. It is one of the most versatile tapes in any facility toolkit, used across maintenance, repair, bundling, and temporary fixes.The cloth backing gives duct tape its characteristic strength and flexibility. Unlike carton sealing tape, it conforms well to irregular surfaces and can be torn by hand without a dispenser. It resists moisture and can handle both indoor and outdoor conditions, though it is not designed for permanent applications or extreme temperature exposure.
REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE
Quick repairs to equipment covers, hoses, guards, and surfaces. Duct tape is a go-to for temporary fixes while a permanent repair is scheduled.
BUNDLING AND SECURING
Bundling pipe, conduit, tubing, or loose materials together. The cloth construction holds well under tension for items that need to stay grouped during transit or storage.
SURFACE PROTECTION
Temporary covering of surfaces, edges, or corners during construction, move-in, or equipment installation where some surface protection is needed without the precision of painters tape.
GENERAL UTILITY
Labeling, color-coding items, and general utility tasks where a strong tape that can be torn by hand and repositioned as needed is the priority.
DUCT TAPE IS NOT A PERMANENT SOLUTION
Duct tape adhesive can break down over time, especially in heat or UV exposure. It is designed for temporary and maintenance applications. Do not rely on it for long-term structural repairs or high-stress packaging applications.
MASKING TAPE AND PAINTERS TAPE
Masking tape and painters tape are often grouped together, but they are not the same product. Both use a crepe paper backing and a pressure-sensitive adhesive designed for temporary applications, but they differ in how cleanly they remove and how precisely they hold a paint line.
MASKING TAPE
Masking tape is a general-purpose crepe paper tape designed to temporarily hold, bundle, label, or protect surfaces during painting. It adheres reliably to most surfaces and is easy to tear by hand. It is not optimized for crisp paint lines or extended application periods, and it may leave adhesive residue if left on surfaces for too long or applied in high heat.
BEST FOR: Holding items in place during prep, labeling, light bundling, general masking where clean lines are not required
PAINTERS TAPE
Painters tape uses a more controlled adhesive formulated for clean, residue-free removal. It holds a sharper paint line than standard masking tape, and the adhesive is designed to release cleanly from painted surfaces, trim, and glass without leaving residue or lifting the substrate. It can be left in place for a defined period (typically 1 to 14 days depending on the product) without adhesive bleed or residue buildup.
BEST FOR: Painting and finishing work where clean lines and residue-free removal are required; protection of trim, glass, fixtures, and equipment surfaces
MASKING VS. PAINTERS: WHICH SHOULD YOU USE?
If you need a clean paint line or are applying tape to a finished or delicate surface, use painters tape. If you just need something to hold or bundle temporarily without concern for residue, masking tape is the lower-cost choice. Never use standard masking tape on freshly painted surfaces or leave either type on surfaces longer than the recommended application window.
PRINTED TAPE
Printed tape is carton sealing tape with a message, logo, or graphic printed directly on the backing. The tape itself seals the box the same way standard packaging tape does; the print adds communication or branding value on top of that function.BRAND IDENTITY
Tape printed with a company name or logo turns every outbound shipment into a branded touchpoint. It signals professionalism at the point of delivery and helps distinguish shipments in transit.
HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS
Pre-printed messages like "FRAGILE," "THIS SIDE UP," or "DO NOT CRUSH" communicate handling requirements directly on the box without requiring a separate label.
TAMPER EVIDENCE
Tape printed with a company name or unique pattern makes unauthorized opening visible. If the tape is removed or broken, the tamper evidence is immediately apparent on the outside of the box.
SECURITY AND CHAIN OF CUSTODY
For valuable or sensitive shipments, printed tape provides an additional visual indicator that a box has not been opened or substituted in transit between origin and destination.

STRAPPING TAPE AND FLATBACK TAPE
These two tape types are less commonly discussed but serve important functions in box reinforcement and bundling applications.STRAPPING TAPE
Strapping tape is a filament-reinforced tape with fiberglass strands embedded in the backing. The filaments run lengthwise, giving the tape very high tensile strength in one direction. It is used to reinforce corrugated boxes under heavy or awkward loads, bundle items together, and secure pallet loads in combination with other packing materials.
Strapping tape is not a substitute for physical strapping on heavy pallets, but it excels at reinforcing box bottoms and seams, bundling tubes, pipes, or rolled materials, and securing items to pallets where the load is light enough that tape alone is sufficient. It resists moisture and holds up in a range of temperatures.
BEST FOR: Box reinforcement, bundling pipe and tube, light pallet securing, heavy-duty box bottom sealing
FLATBACK TAPE
Flatback tape uses a flat paper backing (as opposed to the crepe backing of masking tape) coated with a strong, often natural rubber adhesive. The flat backing makes it easy to write on and gives it a consistent, smooth surface for labeling or color-coding applications. It does not stretch, which makes it useful for applications where precise positioning and straight lines matter.
Flatback tape is commonly used in manufacturing and assembly environments for masking, holding components during assembly, and applying labels or tags to surfaces. The natural rubber adhesive provides strong adhesion to rough or uneven surfaces.

WATER-ACTIVATED TAPE
Water-activated tape (WAT), also called gummed tape or Kraft tape, uses a starch-based adhesive that is only activated when moistened. Once activated and applied to a corrugated surface, the adhesive bonds with the fibers of the box rather than just sticking to the surface. This creates a significantly stronger seal than pressure-sensitive tape on corrugated.WAT is available in two forms: non-reinforced, which is plain Kraft paper, and reinforced, which has fiberglass strands embedded in the backing for higher tensile strength. Reinforced WAT is the correct choice for heavier boxes, export shipments, and applications where tamper evidence is important.
Once applied, water-activated tape cannot be removed without visibly tearing the box surface, making tampering immediately obvious. This characteristic makes it a preferred choice for e-commerce operations and shippers of high-value goods.
BEST FOR: Secure e-commerce fulfillment, export and long-haul shipping, tamper-evident sealing, high-value or heavy cartons
BONDS TO THE BOX
The starch adhesive penetrates the corrugated fibers rather than adhering to the surface only, creating a bond that is typically stronger than the box itself.
TAMPER-EVIDENT
Attempting to remove WAT tears the surface of the corrugated, making unauthorized access immediately visible on the outside of the shipment.
RECYCLABLE
Paper-backed and starch-based, WAT is fully recyclable with the corrugated box. No need to separate the tape before recycling, which simplifies the process for recipients.
REQUIRES A DISPENSER
WAT must be moistened before application, which requires a water-activated tape dispenser. Manual or electric dispensers are available depending on volume.
ETAPE AND ZEROTAPE
Two specialty tape formats from Benchmark's tape lineup address common pain points in high-volume packing operations: core waste and roll efficiency.
ETAPE
eTape is an all-purpose acrylic packing tape with a compact core that fits more tape per roll than standard hand tape rolls. A single eTape roll holds approximately 1.5 times the tape of a typical hand roll at the same outer diameter. This means fewer roll changes per shift, less core waste per case, and better cost-per-foot value. eTape uses a water-based acrylic adhesive and works on standard H-style dispensers.
BEST FOR: High-volume packing lines looking to reduce roll changes and core waste without switching to machine tape
ZEROTAPE
ZeroTape is a coreless tape format that eliminates the cardboard core entirely. Without a core, more tape fits on a roll, core waste is reduced, and the compact roll size is easier to handle and store. It fits dispensers designed for coreless tape. ZeroTape is a practical choice for operations focused on reducing material waste and packaging footprint without sacrificing tape performance.

What is the difference between masking tape and painters tape?
Both are crepe paper tapes designed for temporary use, but painters tape uses a more controlled adhesive formulated for clean, residue-free removal from finished surfaces. Masking tape is lower cost but may leave adhesive residue if applied to delicate surfaces or left in place too long.
Why is water-activated tape considered stronger than standard packaging tape?
The starch adhesive in WAT bonds with the fibers of the corrugated box rather than just adhering to the surface. This creates a seal that is part of the box itself. Removing WAT tears the surface of the carton, making it tamper-evident as well.
What colors does floor marking tape come in?

Can I use duct tape to seal shipping boxes?

What is strapping tape and when should I use it?
Strapping tape (also called filament tape) has fiberglass strands embedded in the backing that give it very high tensile strength. It is used to reinforce corrugated box bottoms and seams, bundle tubes and pipe, and secure lighter loads to pallets. It is not a substitute for poly or steel strapping on heavy pallet loads.
Do I need a special dispenser for water-activated tape?
Yes. Water-activated tape requires a dispenser that moistens the adhesive side of the tape before it is applied. Manual dispensers are available for lower-volume use. Electric dispensers cut and moisten the tape automatically for higher-volume operations.
